Coalition’s promised climate plan slowly takes shape

COALITION CLIMATE PLANS:
* Move away from renewable energy by keeping coal plants open and lifting bans on nuclear technology
* Insuring energy investments including gas, coal, hydropower, batteries and renewable energy
* Unlocking gas supply and infrastructure investments and establishing a gas reservation plan on the east coast
* Changing the energy regulator’s objectives to focus on cheaper costs and better reliability for customers rather than emissions reduction efforts
* Targeting emerging technologies including carbon capture and storage, commercial and industrial rooftop solar, low-emission metals and nuclear
* Creating a voluntary market for large emitters, unlike the government’s voluntary market, while eliminating mandatory emissions cuts
* Removal of climate targets set by the Labor government, including a 43 per cent emissions reduction target by 2030 and an 82 per cent renewable energy target by the same year
* Achieving the net zero emissions target that Australia committed to under former Prime Minister Scott Morrison
