Jelly Roll admits lowest point in years while touring Australia alone

Jelly Roll has reached a breaking point in its music tour.

During the Australian leg of her tour, the country star admitted she hit one of the lowest points she’s faced in years while being thousands of miles away from her family and support system.

The 40-year-old singer, born Jason Bradley DeFord, spoke candidly on the “No Filter with Kate Langbroek” program. podcastHe shared that long-distance travel challenged him in ways he didn’t expect.

“I’m falling apart. It’s a terrible week. Mentally I’m doing the worst thing I’ve done in a long time,” the “I’m No Good” singer said.

“I’m really far away from home, and being really far away from home really affects me, like in an anxious way…. I’m not having fun, and I want to go home.”

Jelly Roll played six shows in Australia from 25 October to 4 November (their first performance in the country) before a final concert scheduled for 8 November in Auckland, New Zealand.

He canceled his Auckland show at the last minute due to illness, making it a rare instance of him missing a performance.

In the podcast, Jelly Roll explained that his physical illness had a domino effect on his mental state as his grueling travel schedule continued.

He said the trip abroad “made my stomach upset”, adding that his health problems were quickly taking a toll on his overall well-being.

“When my stomach isn’t right, nothing is right. My mind isn’t right. Everything. I just can’t think clearly,” he said.

Jelly Roll also said that the logistics of the Australia trip, particularly the lack of tour buses, intensified his sense of isolation.

“I have to be super isolated. I don’t like it,” she explained. “I spend too much time alone in my hotel room, just in my head. I don’t like it. I miss my family so much.”

She shared that she did breathing exercises to calm herself and “talk to myself” about the illness, but admitted that every part of her wanted to return to Tennessee.

“Everyone wants to go home when they get sick. That’s just up to us,” he said. “I don’t feel well so I want to go home.”

The tiring tour also coincided with a tense period abroad.

Jelly Roll recently claimed Louis Vuitton staff in Sydney treated her “like a criminal” during a shopping trip and shared a video of the experience on social media.

Earlier this month, the Grammy-nominated star said employees looked at him as if he was about to “rob” the store.

“Hey man, Louis Vuitton in Sydney treated us like we were going to come and rob the place legally,” said the musician, who was wearing a backwards hat in the clip.

Jelly Roll said in 2023 that his first major encounter with the law occurred when he was a teenager.

He was 16 when he was arrested and was charged as an adult with felony theft and possession with intent to sell.

Jelly Roll served more than a year behind bars, followed by seven years of probation.
