New York Jets player Kris Boyd in critical condition after being shot in abdomen | NFL

New York Jets player Kris Boyd was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning.

The 29-year-old was shot in the abdomen on West 38th Street in Midtown around 2 a.m., the NYPD said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was critical but stable.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” the Jets said in a statement.

Ernest Quander, one of Boyd’s college friends in Texas, said the actor was doing well.

“He’s completely fine right now. He’s doing well. He’s doing really well,” Quander told the New York Post on Sunday.

The Post reported It was stated that Boyd was shot after an argument in front of a restaurant turned into violence. Police said they were searching for a man they believed to be the attacker, who fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV.

Boyd, a cornerback who plays mostly on special teams, was a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 draft following his college career at Texas. He also played for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals before joining the Jets in March. He has not played so far this season due to a shoulder injury.

During his time in Texas, Boyd said that the hardships he experienced in his childhood (losing his father and the grandmother who helped raise him) gave him a positive outlook on life.

“I appreciate all the little things” Boyd said. “Everyone asks me why I have a smile on my face. Because I shouldn’t be here.”

The Jets have had a rough season off the field. In October, Nick Mangold, one of the most popular actors in history, died at the age of 41 while seeking a kidney transplant. Earlier this month, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Marshawn Kneeland passed away at the age of 24.
