Met Office issues snow and ice weather warnings as cold health alert comes into force

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice and snow in the north of England as the cold weather warning comes into force.
Ice warnings are in place for areas in the north-east and far north of mainland Scotland from Monday as showers and low temperatures overnight pose a risk of ice on roads and pavements.
A few more warnings have been issued on Tuesday, with snow expected in Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar and Strathclyde.
Further icy warnings have been announced for parts of northern England as sub-zero temperatures, rain and snowfall on hills could lead to icing.
Dan Holley, deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “As Storm Claudia retreats southwards, high pressure to the north-west will cause a cold northward flow from the Arctic across the UK. This will bring much colder weather conditions than recent days and, although overall drier than recent days, there will also be a risk of wintry hazards such as snow and ice.”
This is a breaking story, more to come…
