Minister orders performance audit of doctors

Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has instructed senior medical officials to review and evaluate the number of patients doctors attend every day.

At the review meeting held at the Secretariat on the performance of doctors on Monday, the Minister said that he had received complaints about the absence of doctors in hospitals and most of these complaints came from teaching hospitals, district and regional hospitals and community health centres.

The Minister ordered strict disciplinary measures to be taken against doctors and other medical staff found to be negligent or irresponsible in providing care to patients. He also instructed officials to monitor how many outpatients (OPs) each doctor treats daily and submit detailed reports.

The minister also said that doctors who provide good medical services to people will also be encouraged. While he recognized good employees, he made it clear that those who did not do their job would not be tolerated.

Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav also said that the performance of managers working in teaching hospitals was not satisfactory and asked the officials to evaluate their functioning as well. He also directed them to examine the job schedules of inspectors and other key positions in teaching hospitals.

He said that details of cancer treatments carried out in private hospitals should also be reported through the reportable registration system. However, he observed that this did not happen in practice and instructed the authorities to take the necessary measures in this regard.

Chief Secretary Saurabh Gaur, Secondary Health Director Chakradhar Babu and others were present in the meeting.
