Australian radio broadcaster to be farewelled in St Andrew’s Cathedral service

His close friend Paul Warren began his eulogy.

“Today, we join the state of NSW to commemorate an Australian icon who touched the lives of countless Australians from all walks of life, from truckers and tramps to prime ministers,” Warren said. “At its peak it had 2 million listeners.”

Warren recalls Laws’ early life, from his birth in Papua New Guinea on August 8, 1935, to his two bouts of polio as a child and a young man.

“John never let that stop him. He fought back, he built back. And it’s that same determination and resilience that carries him through everything he does in life,” Warren said.
