Katie’s Abraham’s father supports Operation Midway Blitz after daughter killed

When the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reached out to ask if they could honor my daughter Katie through “Operation Midway Blitz,” I had questions. I couldn’t accept anything that wasn’t visible on my daughter’s behalf. But after speaking with DHS and understanding the goals of this operation—enforcing laws that should protect families like mine and amplifying Katie’s tragic story—I am convinced that her death would not have been in vain.
Katie was brutally murdered on January 19, 2025, in a way no parent could have imagined. He was a passenger in a car stopped at a red light when an illegal alien, driving drunk at approximately 80 miles per hour, crashed into the back of their vehicle. The driver, Julio Cucul-Bol, a Guatemalan citizen who was in the country illegally and using a fake Mexican ID, stole from us a bright, loving young woman who had her whole life ahead of her.
Adding to the horror of that night, after violently destroying the car and the lives within it, he fled the scene without giving a second thought to the people he had maimed and killed. He didn’t try to help. He did not call for help. Selfishly and cowardly, he fled and left others to face the destruction he had caused.
This is the true measure of a man who should never be in our country.

It seems painfully simple: If this man hadn’t been allowed into our country against federal law, he wouldn’t be on his way and my daughter would be alive today. If Illinois had real leadership willing to put public safety ahead of politics, and if the state hadn’t gotten even tougher on its protective policies protecting this coward, Katie might still be with us.
I’ve been saying for months that it’s much easier to prevent chaos on the front end than to clean up tragedies like mine on the back end. An ounce of prevention always beats a pound of cure. I continually challenge Illinois politicians to explain how they plan to balance public safety with open border and asylum policies. The silence was deafening.
And I’ve asked over and over again: What controls or oversight processes were put in place after Illinois politicians opened the back door to everyone? Who was ensuring our communities were safe? Who was keeping track of who was coming, where they were going, how they were supported?
EXCUSE SHARED AFTER ALLEGED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT MOWED UP BLUE STATE COUPLE – ‘HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE?’
Instead of acting with compassion or foresight, Illinois leaders encouraged and even encouraged illegal immigration, sending a dangerous message that anyone can come here with no consequences. This is not compassion; This is cruelty. It shows no respect for the safety of residents and no empathy for the struggles, abuse and exploitation experienced by people making this dangerous journey.
After Katie’s death, I met dozens of DHS and ICE agents and support staff in Chicago. I also sat down with ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, and we talked at length about how open border policies are tearing our communities apart. The contrast couldn’t be starker. I was amazed by their professionalism, compassion and dedication. These men and women are not the bad guys that some politicians and activists claim. They are Americans trying to do their job to restore order and balance after years of dangerous neglect. Each of the dozens of men and women I met were competent, professional, and deeply committed to keeping our communities safer.
I can’t help but wonder if any of ICE’s critics have taken the time to sit across from one of these agents or staff. If they did, I believe they would see what I see: dedicated Americans working tirelessly to make our communities safer.

Illinois politicians showed no such compassion. They ignored Katie’s story because to accept it would mean admitting the failures of their policies. It turns out their silence isn’t about pain or guilt; it’s about political self-preservation. Protecting inflated censuses and congressional seats seems more important than protecting innocent lives.
Instead of acting with compassion or foresight, Illinois leaders encouraged and even encouraged illegal immigration, sending a dangerous message that anyone can come here with no consequences.
Katie lost her life in a cynical game of Russian roulette. And with him we lost everything he could have been; your future, your chance of getting married, your chance of having children. I will never walk him down the aisle. I will never hold his children. These are the real consequences of failed leadership.

Our current Illinois politicians should slink away in shame, never to hold any public office again.
That’s why I support “Operation Midway Blitz.” Because it’s time to bring accountability back to our immigration system. It’s time to put the safety of Americans ahead of political games. Now is the time to honor Katie not just with words but with actions.
