Arnie dog death was inside job, police now claim
The mysterious case of the stolen ute and the missing dog later found dead took on a different dimension when the police announced that they no longer believed the story told by the animal owners.
Nathan McKeown and Louise McKeown reported their black ute stolen from Wynnum on November 8, along with their pet German Shepherd Arnie.
The duo made several high-profile media appearances, including television interviews calling for the thief to return the dog, and the story received widespread attention nationwide.

“I didn’t sleep well,” Nathan McKeown told Nine News last week.
The vehicle was found dead inside the seven-year-old dog on Amelia Street in Fortitude Valley on Tuesday.
Police said they had concluded the investigation by dedicating significant resources to tracking down the person who stole the ute.
“It has now been determined that illegal use of a motor vehicle did not occur,” the statement said.
Investigators instead allege Nathan McKeown himself drove the vehicle to Fortitude Valley just after 10.30pm on November 7 and left the vehicle on foot with the dog still inside.
He allegedly told his partner the ute the next morning that the ute had been stolen, and his partner contacted the police.
