Warning issued to government over building 1.5 million homes pledge

The new research announced that the government’s promise to build 1.5 million new houses by 2029 is in danger.

A survey conducted by the Skill Development Organization City & Guilds found that 76 percent of construction companies were fighting to hire the talented personnel they needed in a surprising way.

84 percent of the respondents agreed that the industry struggled with critical skill scarcity.

This deficit predicts that by the latest appearance of the construction industry educational committee, the sector requires additional 239,300 workers by 2029 to meet the demand for the housing target.

More than half of the employers, 54 percent, express significant doubts about the current labor capacity of the sector to achieve this goal.

The same percentage also arouses suspicion of the sector’s ability to offer net zero housing targets.

Kirstie Donnellly, General Manager of City & Guilds, said, iz We cannot build 1.5 million houses to deliver people.

“With the cooperation between flexible ways, smart investments and industry, education and government, we need to reset how we draw, educate and raise talents in the construction sector.

“Reducing the trust of the government to overseas workers, investing in skills and feeding is not desired – it is not important – critical.”

Checkatrade CEO Jambu Palaniappan said: “The vision of modern, energy -saving houses in the 21st century will not be reached unless the critical trade skills gap.

“The government is taking some important steps to address the problem, and the industry needs to play a role.

“Chectratrade is a piloting by increasing construction apprenticeships, helping to develop new skills to make more consumer houses more greek and cheaper than the existing transactions.”
