Former Australia captain Steve Smith dishes out a brutal response to former England skipper Monty Panesar who sledged him over Sandpapergate in South Africa
Smith returned to the official leadership role in November 2021, serving as captain when Pat Cummins was unavailable.
“Ben Stokes and the England team need to make Steve Smith feel guilty and play on it,” Panesar told Aceodds.com.
“Say something like, ‘I don’t think it’s ethical for him to be captain, I don’t think he’s playing the game fairly.’ Really get into him and make him feel guilty about it.”
Panesar also called on British tabloids to investigate Smith.

“If it were the other way around, Australian media would be everywhere,” Panesar said. “If it had been one of the England players they would have said ‘The cheaters have arrived’. Right? That’s where the UK media should be focusing and pressing too. Use this as a way of helping England.”
“Hopefully England will use this as an advantage and not stay silent about it because we know he batted well while captaining Australia.”
Despite Panesar’s insistence, Stokes was filled with respect and admiration for Smith.
“Not much has changed because he’s racing against us, right?” The England captain said on Thursday.
“This seems to be a constant. [He’s a] serious player [and] It’s been like that for a very long time. He and Joe Root are, in my opinion, neck-and-neck in terms of the best batsmen of this generation. You always want to find ways to keep the top players quiet. This is something we will have to do. “It’s going to be a difficult thing to do.”
Left-arm spinner Panesar, who took 167 wickets in 50 Tests, was not known for his cricketing acumen as a player. The late Shane Warne once spoke of his ability to learn from experience: “Monty Panesar didn’t play 33 Tests – he played one Test 33 times.”
Judging by his answers brainHis general knowledge is not very good.

Host John Humphrys asked: “In which city is the Olympiastadion, built for the 1972 Olympics and where the German national football team played international matches until 2001?” Panesar replied: “Athens”.
Panesar told brain flop Monty Panesar and Expert Fielders Podcasts in 2020.
“General information has arrived, brain “I got carried away by the seat, I had stage fright,” said Panesar. brain melting. It was worse than facing Mitchell Johnson’s bouncer!”
Panesar also blamed the hosts’ lack of cricket knowledge for his display.
“He didn’t know what cricket was or anything like that,” Panesar said. “It puts you at ease when someone says, ‘I know who you are,’ because then it’s like, ‘Okay, I can relax a little bit.’
“I think he said that on purpose to scare me, and it worked. He was probably laughing thinking, ‘This guy is totally obtuse.’ I watched it again and thought, ‘This Monty Panesar is really obtuse.’
“He’s like, you know Montgomery Burns The Simpsons? It reminds me of someone sitting there thinking, ‘I got this guy.’ There’s someone having a nervous breakdown and I’m going to go after him.’ He’s obviously a legendary streamer and has a real presence. I don’t think we did [speak afterwards]And I really didn’t want to either.
