Paul Arcand’s press review | Who says the truth to the PLQ, the Canadian Pablo Escobar and candy prison sentences

During his press review Thursday morning, Paul Arcand addresses the crisis shaking the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) following rumors and unproven allegations concerning Pablo Rodriguez’s leadership race. The central question is whether activists were paid to vote for Mr. Rodriguez.

He mentions that the rumors surrounding the text messages which were revealed by The Montreal JournalWednesday, have been circulating since April.

These disturbing text message exchanges are circulating and thus sowing doubt among party members, according to him. Two MPs, one from the Coalition Avenir Québec and the other from the Quebec Liberal Party, were named Thursday by political columnist Jonathan Trudeau, but both deny any involvement and demand apologies and retractions.

The president of the PLQ, Raphaël Primo Ferraro, said for his part that he had been informed of “vague, unproven allegations last April”, even claiming that documents had been “forged” or “falsified in whole or in part”.

And meanwhile, Marwah Rizqy, the former parliamentary leader of the PLQ, remains silent after meeting Pablo Rodriguez to tell him that she “kicked out one of her great friends, my chief of staff, for serious misconduct”, without specifying what the fault was.
