Jelly Roll shaves off decade-long beard after major weight loss journey

Jelly Roll has a brand new look.
The 40-year-old “Save Me” singer, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, instagram On Thursday, he will share his new look after shaving off the beard he’s had for more than a decade.
“By now you’ve probably figured out that I look like a ninja turtle,” he said in the video. “Crazy. One of the reasons I started growing a beard was because I was so obese, it was easier to cover up what was going on here.”
Fans flooded the comments section with positive messages telling the singer that she was an inspiration. “Someone call Gillette because Jelly looks like SHARP!” one fan wrote, while another added: “You are so deserving, Jelly. You really are. 🙏.”

His unrecognizable transformation took place after the 2026 Grammy Award nominees were announced. Jelly Roll received three nominations before the awards ceremony, including best contemporary country album and best country duo/group performance.

In the video, the singer gets emotional talking about what these nominations mean to her, calling it “probably the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”
“When I went to the first Grammys of the year because I had a new artist, I thought to myself that this was the only time I would ever attend the Grammys, and to come back three years later with more nominations than I’ve ever received is just… first of all, I’m grateful.”

“I don’t care what artists say, I don’t care how artists act, I will tell you the real truth,” he added. “There isn’t a single artist in the world who didn’t grow up watching the Grammys as a child and then go into his bedroom and rehearse his speech.”

He later held back tears while accepting the country album nomination and said “win, lose or draw, dude, holy shit we won,” referring to himself and his team.

Jelly Roll started her weight loss journey in December 2022 and has openly told her fans about her progress over the years.
In April, during Pat McAfee’s “Big Night AHT” event, he told fans he had lost 183 pounds, telling the cheering crowd, “I started out at 540 pounds. This morning I’m 357 pounds, baby.” He added that he wants to lose another 100 kilos so he can go skydiving with his wife, Bunnie XO.

The “Church” singer later spoke with Fox News Digital at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards in May and noted that her biggest challenge when it comes to weight loss is food.

“If you’re really fighting obesity, you’ve got to start at the dinner table, man. Walking is great, other things are great, but you’ve got to fight this addiction at the dinner table,” he said.
