Shocked US driver calls 911: ‘I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield’ | Animals

A driver in Western North Carolina escaped injury after a cat carcass crashed into the passenger side of his windshield along a highway near the Great Smoky Mountains national park.
The unidentified driver, who called 911 on U.S. Route 74 in Swain County near Bryson City, told the dispatcher that a bald eagle had dropped the cat. Bryson City is approximately 65 miles southwest of Asheville.
It’s unclear whether the cat slipped from the eagle’s clutches Wednesday morning or was thrown away simply because the big bird had no taste.
“You may not believe me, but I just caused a bald eagle to knock a cat off my windshield,” the disbelieving driver said in the recorded 911 call. “It absolutely shattered my windshield.”
Any reservations about reporting such a story ended when the dispatcher calmly replied, “Okay. Honestly, I believe you,” and then laughed.
The driver stated that another person also saw the cat fall and said: “He said, ‘This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.’ ‘Really?’ I thought.
“Oh my God. Let’s see. I’ve heard crazier things,” the officer assured.
“Well, that’s scary,” the caller said, and the dispatcher responded with a more nervous laugh: “Yes.”
After locating the driver, the dispatcher said he would send the Highway Patrol to file a report. “One more question,” the officer asked. “Is the cat still alive?”
The caller said it wasn’t, but noted that the cat was on the side of the road, not in his car.
“Okay, I need to ask just to be sure,” the dispatcher said.
