Princess Diana’s former personal designer Paul Costelloe has died at the age of 80, his brand has confirmed. In the statement made by the record company, it was shared that he died in London surrounded by his family.

The statement said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Paul Costelloe has passed away after a short illness. He passed away peacefully in London, surrounded by his wife and seven children.

“We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this time.”

Paul was appointed designer as Diana’s personal designer in 1983 and continued their collaboration until his death in 1997.

Typically known for dressing her for formal occasions, he is also known for one of the most memorable outfits he created for the late royal.

The controversial outfit was a chiffon skirt that was slightly visible when backlit.

Paul was born in Dublin in 1945 and before his involvement with the British Royal Family, he began his career at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris, where he later became a design assistant to designer Jacques Esterel.

He later moved to Milan to support Marks and Spencer’s mission to crack the Italian market.

Today, the brand continues to sell women’s clothing, men’s clothing, bags and accessories collections.

It also sells household goods, jewelry, glasses and children’s clothing.
