Measles alert issued for inner-city and north of Brisbane
One person infected with measles boarded a train to Brisbane airport, while another went to a hospital emergency room. Health officials said the cases were different from another recent cluster south of Brisbane.
Queensland Health’s Metro North public health unit issued an alert at midday on Monday, warning local people that two people in the community had unknowingly been carrying the infectious disease in the past week.
One traveled to the domestic airport by train from a hotel in Brisbane on Monday, while the other went to the Caboolture Hospital emergency department on Thursday and Friday.

Metro North public health physician Dr. Exposure sites do not pose an ongoing risk, Candice Colbran said, but anyone who may have crossed paths with patients should monitor for symptoms, which typically begin seven to 18 days after infection.

Anyone who develops symptoms that initially resemble cold and flu symptoms should seek medical attention, Colbran said.
“Early symptoms of measles include fever, fatigue, cough, runny nose and red, inflamed eyes,” Colbran said.
“These symptoms then develop into a splotchy red rash that usually starts on the face before becoming widespread.”
