Idrissa Gana Gueye slaps teammate Michel Keane in face, gets red card in Everton v Manchester United match
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane in the face during his team’s match against Manchester United on Tuesday morning.
Referee Tony Harrington showed Gueye a red card in the 13th minute for pushing Keane and hitting him after miscommunication earned Manchester captain Bruno Fernandes a free kick.
Gueye sprayed his teammate in the face for the mistake and slapped him in the face before teammates Iliman Ndiaye and Jordan Pickford intervened and barely escorted him off the field.
Despite the obvious confusion, Everton managed to win the match 1–0 despite being reduced to 10 men following a goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the 29th minute. They played the last 77 minutes with a numerical disadvantage.
Commentators on the earlier incident said: “Here’s the red card from Tony Harrington. And Idrissa Gana Gueye is sent off.”
“Iliman Ndiaye is here trying to get his international teammate off the pitch and Jordan Pickford is trying to convey that message.”
Gueye eventually walked down the tunnel.
