In a sad development, police searching for a missing woman found a body in the woods.
The body was found in East Suffolk on Monday (November 24) during the search for Christine Murton, 78, of Rushmere St Andrew, who had been reported missing since Wednesday (November 12).
It is believed that he left his home that morning. The body found near Stratton Hall in Levington has not yet been identified but Christine’s family have been informed of the discovery.
A file is being prepared for the coroner to officially identify the body. Police stated that the death was not considered suspicious.
The search for Christine was expanded on November 22 and CCTV footage was released showing her a few streets away from her Chatsworth Drive home at around 10.40am. Further CCTV footage released on November 19 showed Christine walking along a footpath on the edge of Nacton village and heading towards Decoy Wood shortly after 2.45pm on the day she disappeared.
The blue Toyota Yaris car was later found in a retail parking lot in the Pinewood area on Thursday, November 20. A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “Police searching for missing Rushmere St Andrew woman Christine Murton have found a body.”
“Christine, 78, is believed to have left her home on the morning of Wednesday 12 November and was reported missing that evening.
“The body of a woman was found in woodland near Stratton Hall, near Levington, on the afternoon of Monday 24 November.
“The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.
“Formal identification proceedings have not yet taken place but Christine’s family has been notified and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
