Tornado strikes near Houston, damaging 100 homes and leaving thousands without power

More than 100 homes were damaged in the Houston area after at least one tornado touched down amid the powerful winds of a cold front, officials said.
The damaged residences are in Harris County’s Memorial Northwest neighborhood, where an elected county constable represents the area. Mark Herman said on Facebook:.

A county emergency services building and the Klein Fire Department’s relatively new administration building were damaged in the spring, but workers were able to respond to calls for help. emergency workers and the National Weather Service said.
No deaths or serious injuries were reported.
“There have been reports of damaged structures, downed trees and ruptured gas lines in parts of Northwest Harris County.” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X:.

At the height of the storm, about 28,000 utility customers in the Houston area were without power, but only an estimated 4,000 were left in the dark late Monday. CenterPoint Energy said.
National Weather Service office in Dickinson He said he gave pre-approval. It is one of two potential hurricanes in the region pending a first-hand assessment on Tuesday.
The office released a preliminary orbit map with a timestamp of 16:24 local time.
The second, unconfirmed tornado may have touched down in Waller County, also northwest of Houston, Dickinson’s office said.
Federal forecasters said the eddies and damaging winds in the region were the result of an eastward-moving cold front colliding with warm Gulf of Mexico air, spurring rapidly expanding storms and resulting unstable weather that could develop into hurricanes.
They said the storm passed Monday night and will likely give way to warm temperatures around 80 degrees and clear skies on Tuesday before a “strengthening” cold front passes again before the Thanksgiving holiday and lowers temperatures.
