Youth arrested in ₹1.64-crore digital arrest fraud case

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the ₹1.64 crore digital arrest scam targeting a resident of Thavakkara in Kannur. The accused, Muhammad Ameen Farhana of Olavanna in Kozhikode, was arrested for withdrawing part of the fraudulent amount from a bank using cheque.

The suspect was arrested at Karipur airport while returning from the Gulf, based on intelligence received by Kannur City Police Commissioner P. Nidhinraj. A team comprising SI Shamit, SI Jyothi, SCPO Jithin and CPO Sunil, acting on the instructions of Cyber ​​Crime Inspector Sanal Kumar, made the arrest.

The suspect was produced before the Thalassery Magistrate’s Court and was arrested. With this, the number of arrests in the case, which involved suspects from multiple states, rose to 11.
