Drunk driving: probe under way against interstate bus driver

The enforcement wing of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has initiated an investigation against the intercity private bus driver who was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident came to light on Thursday, November 27, 2025, with a video published by one of the passengers in which the driver was yelling at them in a drunken state.
The bus, which was going from Kozhikode to Bengaluru, was stopped in Mysuru due to the intervention of the passengers. According to the passengers, who later discussed the matter with the MVD team in Kozhikode city, the driver assistant was also drunk.
MVD sources said that the bus involved in the incident will be seized soon as part of the ongoing investigation. They said there were more than 20 passengers on the bus when the incident occurred on November 24. Complainants who asked for help from MVD said that the driver involved in the incident fled the scene with the liquor bottles he had hidden inside the bus. They claimed that the journey resumed from Mysuru after another driver arrived at the spot on the instructions of the Kozhikode-based travel company.
