Almost three months after his assassination, Charlie Kirk’s legacy inspires many to live their lives with gratitude, prayer, and truth. Kirk made a Thanksgiving statement about the importance of being thankful in 2024, just a few weeks after the presidential election. Communio president JP De Gance says it’s a message that remains relevant in 2025.
“I think Charlie’s message echoes the messages of Thanksgiving from a long time ago when we were in different times, we experienced setbacks as a country, we experienced pain as a country, we experienced loss as a country, and the message of Thanksgiving is that we can be grateful in everything,” De Gance told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “We can look up to God above and thank him for both the many blessings we have and, you know, we often become better men and women through our suffering.”
Kirk said he loves Thanksgiving, which he calls “a uniquely American tradition,” because it’s a time when people of all faiths can come together and understand the importance of gratitude.
“I think it means a very good thing for our nation to have a day where we can stop and give thanks,” Kirk said in 2024. He believed that “ungrateful people make the world worse” and “grateful people make the world better.”

“Gratitude is the fruit that gives flavor to everything. So, who should we thank? Almighty Allah,” he added.
De Gance also spoke about the importance of gratitude in the Christian faith, noting that humility allows Christians to recognize the good things that come from God in their lives. He added that Thanksgiving comes once a year for the nation, but that it is something that “should be part of the daily Christian walk.”
In his 2024 Thanksgiving message, Kirk encouraged his listeners to disconnect from technology during Thanksgiving and connect with their families instead.

De Gance agreed, saying it was important for Americans to spend less time focusing on the “noise” of the modern world and more time focusing on those around them.
“There’s so much noise coming from our technology and the world around us, and I think it’s a great reminder, a great message and an encouragement to disconnect from devices and take a step back from the daily noise,” De Gance said. he said.
De Gance advised that in line with Communio’s mission, this Thanksgiving people are looking for ways to invite those without a community to join them. He touched on the importance of finding people who don’t have anyone to enjoy Thanksgiving with and sending them an invitation.

“This can give us the opportunity to invite others into our homes and invite them in, to experience that gratitude,” De Gance said. “There is a loneliness epidemic sweeping our country… So we can ask ourselves: What are we doing this season to invite people who don’t have anyone to enjoy Thanksgiving with, who are away from family and can’t travel, who can’t be first responders and get back to their family?”
