Marty Supreme, Hamnet and Wicked: For Good are some of the leading names in this period when a competitive year is shaping up for the Oscar race.
The Golden Globe nominations, arguably the first major milestone of the awards season, will provide some clues about which films are gaining momentum when they are announced on December 8.
Before the season ends with the Oscars on March 15, the competition continues with the Bafta Film Awards and the newly renamed Actor Awards (formerly SAG).
Most of the frontrunners have premiered at film festivals like Cannes, Venice, and Telluride, but the one or two remaining contenders, like Avatar: Fire and Ash, should be released before the end of the year.
