Third Oklahoma college receives multimillion gift from MacKenzie Scott

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott’s string of donations to institutions of higher education in Oklahoma continued with an $8 million donation to a tribal college.

The ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos donated $17 million to Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and Enid, then did the same to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah earlier this week.

Muscogee Nation College in Okmulgee says $8 million came from YieldingAn organization founded by Scott that describes its purpose as “sharing the financial wealth created by the labor of countless people.”
The college said the gift will be used “to secure financial investments and expand the educational legacy of the Muscogee Nation” for future students. This gift will also support our ongoing efforts to empower students, strengthen academic programs, and expand pathways to educational and cultural advancement. “We express our sincere gratitude to Yield Giving and MacKenzie Scott for their investment in our vision and community.”
The college started offering courses in 2004 and gained land-grant institution status in 2014. It offers associate degrees in gaming, tribal services, criminal justice, natural resources and Native American Studies, with an emphasis in Mvskoke language or Mvskoke studies, according to its website.
