Berend appointed Cyclone MD

West Perth-based Junior Cyclone Metals has increased Paul Berend’s portfolio as it continues to develop its Iron Bear project in Canada.
In late September, Cyclone told the market it was reviewing its operations, and as a result, Mr. Berend said he would move from chief executive to CEO of Iron Bear, an iron ore project, given his desire to increase asset progress.
On news of this transition, the junior said it had initiated a process to “identify and appoint a new chief executive officer in due course” while continuing to follow best practices across corporate governance.
On Monday, Cyclone said Mr Berend will now assume chief executive responsibilities as well as his CEO commitments at Iron Bear, while a review of the company’s non-core assets continues.
“Paul played a central role in negotiating and implementing the Development Agreement with Vale SA, which was the cornerstone of the Iron Bear Project,” Cyclone said.
“He will continue to run Iron Bear’s operations and develop the relevant commercial and governance frameworks with Vale and other key stakeholders with the support and guidance of the Cyclone board.
“The president and vice president will oversee Cyclone’s corporate affairs to ensure best corporate governance practices are implemented.”
Cyclone also announced that Paul Araujo, currently director of corporate development at St George Mining, chaired by John Prineas, has joined the board as a non-executive director.
Monday’s update follows last week’s news that David Sanders and Luke Martino would step into the roles of president and vice president, respectively, and that longtime director Tim Turner confirmed his retirement.
In the September 2025 quarter, the young player officially launched the Iron Bear pre-feasibility study, which it plans to complete by April next year.
As of 10.12am AWST, Cyclone shares were down 6 per cent to 6.1 cents.
