PM Modi announces ex-gratia for bereaved families of Sivaganga road accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, December 1, 2025, announced that he will give ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh to the families of each of those killed in the road accident that occurred on Sunday evening, November 30, in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu.
“The loss of life due to a mishap that took place in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu is very sad. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The next of kin of each deceased will be given ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given ₹ 50,000: PM,” a social media post by the Prime Minister’s office said.
In the early hours of Sunday, 11 people were killed and 50 others were injured when two buses belonging to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) collided near Nachiyarpuram in Thirupathur in Sivaganga district. A bus from Karaikudi to Devakottai and a bus from Devakottai to Dindigul collided near Vivekananda Polytechnic College.
The preliminary investigation revealed that both buses were traveling at high speed on the narrow road. The same night, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced a compensation of ₹ 3 lakh per person for the families of the deceased, ₹ 1 lakh each for those who suffered serious injuries and ₹ 50,000 each for those who sustained minor injuries.
