Prince George can’t be ‘kept under lock and key’ | Royal | News

Prince George, who recently turned 12, is being encouraged to “own wealth” ahead of his future reign.

Although he is second in line to the British throne after his father, Prince William, the young Royal has been shielded from public attention wherever possible.

William, 43, is determined to give his eldest son an ordinary childhood with limited involvement in Royal duties. Yet Royal commentator Katie Nicholl argues that it was important that the British public “fell in love” with George while he was still a teenager.

“William doesn’t want George to have the same level of exposure that he and Prince Harry had as children, so this needs to be done very carefully,” she said.

Ms Nicholl added: “[Prince] William is smart enough to know that the public should have fallen in love with George when he was young. “

He also stated: “He needs to have a presence and he can’t be locked away and introduced only when he’s 18.”

George, along with his younger siblings Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, usually only appear at major Royal events such as Connecting the Colours, the Easter Sunday service and the Christmas Day parade at Sandringham.

They also accompanied their parents to important national meetings. Prince George and Princess Charlotte were last seen at Wimbledon last July; All three young people attended the coronation of King Charles in May 2023.

While Prince William is reportedly grooming his eldest son for future duties, Royal expert Ms Nicholl said: “Aides I have spoken to and those who know him best say he is absolutely prepared.”

“Of course, this is not a moment he wants to think about.

“She loves her father and wants him to be with her for a long time, but she will be ready when the time comes.”
