Geraldton residents told they can return home after bushfire

Western Australians are happier at work than the rest of the country; At least that’s according to the SEEK Workplace Happiness Index 2025, released this morning.

The index found that only 57 per cent of people across the country are happy at work, and one in three people often fear going into work.

WA workers have been called the happiest in the country.

But in Western Australia, 62 per cent reported feeling happy at work; Queensland and South Australia (61%) followed, with New South Wales and Victoria (55% and 53%) lagging behind.

SEEK customer insights and research officer Kylie Pascoe said the findings were a slight improvement on last year’s inaugural survey.

“What’s particularly interesting about this year’s findings is that purpose at work remains the biggest driver of happiness at work, with the importance of senior leadership rising three places from last year’s survey,” he said.

“As people place more emphasis on feeling that their work is important and that their senior leaders are on the journey with them, we are seeing a shift away from motivators like workload demand and your manager.”

For employees who said they were happy, their workplace, colleagues, and work-life balance were the factors that contributed the most to their workplace satisfaction.

For those unhappy, career progression, stress and salary were common factors.

The index surveyed more than 3,000 Australians from a wide range of generations, locations and industries.
