Jealous thug strangled girlfriend after flying into rage over childcare phone call | UK | News

A man who strangled his girlfriend until she passed out has been jailed. Adam Marchant, 32, of Whittlesey, West End, near Peterborough, put his partner in a “terrifying” situation as he pulled the victim from the car, put his hands around her throat, pushed her against another vehicle and caused her to pass out. According to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, the man would become angry if the victim contacted his child’s father about childcare arrangements. In February, she accused him of talking to the child’s father while driving home from a friend’s house.
Marchant, who was in the passenger seat, grabbed the steering wheel, causing the car to crash into a metal flood gate. The gunman then jumped out of the vehicle, dragged the victim into the passenger seat and sped back to their home, police reported. Marchant then pulled the victim from the car, forced her into another vehicle, and held her throat until she lost consciousness.
When she tried to escape, he tied her around her neck and dragged her back inside, taking her phone so she couldn’t call for help. After locking the door, Marchant stood in front of the door holding a knife, told the victim he could not leave and threatened to kill himself while injuring himself. When Marchant finally dropped off the keys, the victim was able to grab them, run to his car, lock himself inside, and call the police.
Detective Constable Elouise Hicks, who investigated the matter, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim and I commend her bravery in escaping and contacting us.
“Domestic abuse of any kind is unacceptable and we will continue to do everything we can to bring offenders to justice and protect victims.”
In September, Marchant pleaded guilty to two counts of culpable drowning, driving while disqualified and operating a motor vehicle on a road without third-party insurance.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, November 21, he was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, given a 10-year restraining order and disqualified from driving for two years and four months.
