Cairo/Jerusalem: Under an October ceasefire agreement, Palestinian militant group Hamas has handed over the remains of one of the last two hostages still in Gaza, the International Committee of the Red Cross said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said overnight that Israeli forces in Gaza had received what he called “findings” that will be taken to Israel for forensic testing.

The two remaining hostages are Israeli police officer Ran Gvili and Thai citizen Sudthisak Rinthalak, who were kidnapped during the Hamas offensive against Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked a devastating two-year war in Gaza.
The ICRC, headquartered in Geneva, acted as an intermediary between militant groups in Gaza and Israel throughout the war triggered by the Hamas offensive, helping to release living hostages and hand over remains.
Violence has decreased since the October 10 ceasefire, but Israel has continued to attack Gaza and carry out demolitions of what it claims is Hamas infrastructure. Hamas and Israel are accused of violating the US-backed agreement.
Gaza health officials say at least 357 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into force. Israeli officials said Palestinian militants killed three Israeli soldiers during this time.
