CNN halted over Trump’s ‘fat drug for fat people’ remark | US | News

CNN paused its regular broadcast on Tuesday, December 2, to livestream President Donald Trump’s final Cabinet meeting in 2025, in which he took aim at Democrats and the Biden administration.
The network moved on to the meeting near the end of This Hour with Kate Bolduan and continued on Domestic Politics with Dana Bash as the proceedings moved beyond the scheduled time.
As the Cabinet meeting progressed, with Trump highlighting what he described as his accomplishments, some viewers were outraged by his remarks about prescription drug costs. The incident comes after Trump’s recent comments about his health, regarding his doctor’s MRI results.
While discussing the discounted prices of weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy, Trump controversially referred to the drugs as “fat pills” and stated that they were for “fat people,” sparking immediate outrage on social media platforms.
“Trump talks about lowering the cost of Ozempic at his cabinet meeting, calling it a ‘fat pill for fat people.'” One person posted on X before labeling him a “sociopath.”
“I can’t listen to this voice and these crazy lies. He insults the intelligence of all his followers every day and they must really know this by now,” another said.
“What a poor little man,” said a third observer, while a fourth stated: “This. So embarrassing.”
A fifth observer noted: “This isn’t a cabinet meeting, your drunk uncle is speaking on Thanksgiving.”
He also faced criticism, citing changing figures when discussing plans to lower drug costs in the opening year of his second term, as well as attacking what he described as “Democratic fraud” regarding the “affordability crisis.”
“You know, there’s a false narrative that Democrats talk about, affordability. They just say that word, it doesn’t mean anything to anybody, they just say it, affordability,” Trump said. “The word affordability is a hoax made up by the Democrats.
“But the word affordability is a hoax by the democrats, they say that and then they move on to the next topic, everyone thinks they have the lowest prices, no, they had the worst inflation in the history of our country,” he added.
The remarks sparked immediate condemnation, with many highlighting the odd timing given midterm elections looming in the new year.
User One Not give a damn about.”
Another warned: “Trump declaring there is no affordability problem on TV is a losing strategy for 2026.”
A third noted: “Interesting decision from Trump to admit that Democrats care about affordability and not before the midterm elections!” Additionally, Trump was seen with two band-aids during the meeting, which caused health problems.
