Bharat taxi is driver oriented taxi service
The central government has started pilot trials for ride-hailing service ‘Bharat Taxi’, which will take on the already existing and popular Ola, Uber, Rapido and others. The service is intended to provide an alternative for drivers of these private commercial services.
Confirming the launch of Bharat Taxi, Amit Shah wrote in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (December 2) that the app aims to make drivers independent from private companies so that they get a larger share of the fare. He said the service belongs to the driver and therefore they have full control over it.
What is the Bharat Taxi App?
Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Ltd, a multi-state cooperative registered under the MSCS Act 2002, will operate the state’s ride-hailing service. It is considered the world’s first national mobility cooperative, as drivers will own the app without a stake in the government, Mint reported. The cooperative currently has over 51,000 registered driver members in New Delhi and Saurashtra, Gujarat, where this service is in trial and beta phase.
Here, drivers are not only providers but also get their share from the growth of the platform. The service is a collaboration of the pan-India federation of eight top cooperatives that came together on June 6, 2025, comprising NCDC, IFFCO, GCMMF, NABARD, NDDB, NCEL and Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd. This makes Bharat Taxi one of the largest cooperatives in India. The platform is fully funded by these cooperatives and operates on a zero-commission model and single-window to ensure hassle-free, transparent and reliable travel for commuters. This initiative is a milestone in redefining ride-hailing with a fairness-based model and a trusted platform powered by collaboration.
How does Bharat Taxi benefit its drivers?
The platform is extremely beneficial for its drivers as they have the following benefits:
-Financial transparency
-They receive full wages without high commission deductions.
-Drivers become members represented on the cooperative board of directors.
– They also get a share of annual profits and dividends, making the platform a sustainable and fair source of income for them.
