Illegal Immigrant With Prior DUIs Suspected in Crash That Killed 8-Year-Old California Girl

An illegal immigrant who was previously charged with drunken driving and ordered deported in 2023 is the prime suspect in a head-on crash that killed an 8-year-old girl in California over the weekend, authorities said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said 25-year-old Brayan Josue Alva-Rodriguez, a Guatemalan citizen, is being investigated in connection with the deadly collision that occurred Sunday in the San Diego County community of Julian.
The girl and several others were injured on a rural road on two-lane county Highway S-2 shortly after 3 p.m. San Diego Union Tribune reported.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2005 Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound when he crossed the solid double yellow line. The truck entered the southbound lane and hit a Toyota Camry.
The Tacoma then struck a Ford F-350 pulling a commercial trailer, also heading north, authorities said.
The Tacoma eventually rolled over and caught fire, the newspaper reported.
Firefighters were able to rescue a person trapped in the vehicle and extinguish the fire, Cal Fire spokesman Capt. Mike Cornette told the newspaper. He said two people in the Tacoma were able to get out of the truck on their own.

Cornette said five patients were taken to hospitals by four helicopters, while the other three patients were transported by ambulance.
The three children in the backseat of the Camry were taken to a children’s hospital. While two boys, ages 5 and 4, survived, the girl died due to her injuries.
Alva-Rodriguez entered the United States illegally on February 8, 2018, and was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Calexico, California. ICE said he was given a notice to appear before an immigration judge and was released.
He was charged with two counts of DUI on Sept. 6, 2020, and April 7, 2021, during immigration proceedings, according to the agency. On March 16, 2023, an immigration judge ordered his deportation.

But authorities said Alva-Rodriguez did not leave the United States as ordered.
“An innocent life was lost in a tragedy that could now be prevented,” ICE said in a statement. he said.
ICE said an immigration detention officer would be placed with him once he was formally charged. Fox News Digital reached out to the California Highway Patrol.
