China’s Xinjiang struck by 6.0-magnitude earthquake; services remain normal

The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported a 6.0 magnitude earthquake on Thursday in China’s Xinjiang region, which shares a border with Kyrgyzstan in the country’s northwest.

According to CENC, the earthquake occurred at 15:44 local time (0744 GMT) near Akqi district near the Kyrgyzstan-Xinjiang border, with the epicenter at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi).

As of 16:34 local time, local authorities had not received any information about any casualties or building collapse, state media reported.
State media said transport, energy and telecommunications were operating normally in the district.
