Kalanithi Maran moves SC after Delhi HC rejects ₹1,323 crore claim against SpiceJet

The background of the dispute
This legal war is based on 2015 when Maran and Kal Airways transfer all their shares in Spicejet to Ajay Singh for a nominal La2 in the midst of a financial crisis that has almost closed the airlines. Singh as part of the agreement, La1,500 crore.
Maran and Kal Airways also paid La679 Crore to Spicejet for giving convertible warrants and preference shares. However, they were never published under Singh’s administration and encouraged Maran to approach the Delhi Supreme Court in 2017 for reimbursement.
Arbitration Award and Court Challenges
In July 2018, an arbitration panel of three retired Supreme Courts rejected Maran’s claim. La1.323 CRORE DAMAGE but gave a refund ordered La579 CRORE PLU INTEREST. Both sides challenged the parts of this award in accordance with the Arbitration Law in the High Court.
In 2023, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh of the Supreme Court of Delhi ordered to reimburse Spicejet and Singh. La308 Crore for warrants and La270 Crore and applicable interest for preference shares. Spicejet then challenged this decision before the division counter.
