Cops find woman’s body inside car parked outside Lake Illawarra Police Station

A woman’s body has been found in a car parked outside a police station on the NSW South Coast.

Officers made the grisly discovery at Lake Illawarra Police Station, south of Wollongong, at around 4.30pm on Friday, but police believe the 48-year-old was inside the vehicle for three days before he was found.

The woman reportedly arrived at the police station around 6.30pm on Tuesday and security cameras showed her speaking to a police officer and remaining in the foyer for several hours before leaving around 9pm and returning to her vehicle.

It is understood the woman remained in her car until she was discovered unresponsive by police officers.

When the woman could not be resuscitated, a critical incident team was assigned to investigate her death.

“The investigation will be subject to independent review by the Professional Standards Command and will be overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission,” a spokesman said.

“A report will be prepared to be submitted to the forensic physician.”

The police are expected to appear before the media on Saturday afternoon.

More to come.
