ICE arrests illegal immigrant from Azerbaijan with multiple convictions

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Friday that agents arrested an illegal immigrant from Azerbaijan who had multiple convictions for crimes including animal cruelty.
Azerbaijani Rafael Vladimirovi Sargsyan was arrested by ICE Los Angeles on November 25 and will remain in ICE custody pending deportation proceedings, according to officials.
ICE wrote in its statement that Sargsyan had previously been convicted of cruelty to animals, setting fire to a structure and producing a controlled substance.

It is not clear when he arrived in the country and where he entered.
The U.S. State Department issued a travel warning on May 21 advising U.S. travelers to exercise greater caution in Azerbaijan “due to terrorism.”

According to the advisor, “Terrorist groups continue to plan attacks and pose risks in Azerbaijan.” “Terrorists can attack with little or no warning. They can target: Tourist attractions; transportation hubs (airports); markets and shopping centres; local government buildings; hotels, clubs and restaurants; places of worship; parks; major sporting and cultural events; educational institutions and other public spaces.”
There are also concerns about landmines in the former Soviet-era Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast and surrounding areas after armed conflict in 2023.
