Heartbreaking Ellenbrook theft: Locket with late son’s hair stolen from car and later returned
A heartbroken Ellenbrook mother was reunited with an irreplaceable piece of her late son after thieves stole a necklace containing his hair during a car break-in overnight.
Rachael Drage shared an emotional post on Facebook Sunday morning, revealing that her Hyundai Getz was burglarized on Lomas Circle in Ellenbrook.
He said he usually didn’t leave anything of value in the vehicle, but after a tiring week at work, he forgot to remove the gold locket necklace containing hair from his son Noah.
“Last night, my necklace with the locket containing Noah’s hair was stolen. It’s something I can never replace since my son is no longer with me.”
The locket containing strands of Noah’s hair was something Ms. Drage could “never replace”, she said.
“Yes, I know I shouldn’t have left it there, but at the same time, people shouldn’t be trespassing on someone else’s property.”
The heartbreaking post quickly spread across Ellenbrook community groups, prompting an outpouring of support from locals.
A local comment read, “I’d like to put some money towards a reward for its return. Maybe the person who took it was barely doing it and felt helpless, no judgment here but I’d like to offer them an incentive to return the locket. My mother’s heart breaks for you.”
Another user said on social media, “I’m very sorry about what happened to you. We hope he returns your property.”
Ms. Drage later reposted the gold chain and necklace on Facebook, giving the community a closer look at this sentimental jewel.
But in a heartwarming twist, Ms Dage confirmed the necklace was returned on Sunday night and thanked the community for rallying behind her and returning it.
Locals have since praised the strength of the community, saying the increased support showed “they have a heart”.
