Elder Abuse Punishable By Law, Warns DLSA Secretary

Visakhapatnam: Vizianagaram Regional Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary In the observation of the World Old Exception Awareness Day, the Prema Samaj Old Age House in the region visited the Elderly House on Sunday.
As part of the initiative, a legal awareness seminar was held to educate elderly residents under various laws on their legal rights and protection.
Krishna Prasad, who addressed the meeting, emphasized that old parents are not a burden, but a power source for both families and society. The authority warned that any abuse or negligence of the elderly can be punished with laws and will take appropriate legal procedures.
The minister called on the residents to share their concerns and made sure that DLSA would continue to offer help and legal guidance.
The elderly were informed about the welfare plans initiated by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), which aims to support and protect elderly citizens.
The participants were also informed of 15100 from the free help line that allows individuals to inform and receive judicial assistance.
DLSA reiterated the commitment of a proactive role in ensuring the welfare, dignity and mental welfare of the elderly.
