Russia launches largest missile, drone barrage on Kyiv since war in Ukraine began

Hours after the dam, who killed a person and injured at least 26 people, including a child, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had a “very important and productive” phone call with US President Donald Trump.
According to Zelenksyy, the two leaders discussed how Ukraine air defenses can be strengthened, the possible common weapon production between the US and Ukraine, and the US efforts to end the war with Russia.
The US paused some military aid to Ukraine, including important air defense missiles. Ukraine’s main European supporters think how they can help to get loose. Zelenskyy says that plans are standing to create Ukraine’s domestic weapon industry, but that scaling will take time.
The White House did not respond immediately to the requests for comments about the call.
Authorities, Kiev’s seven -hour bombardment, a seven -hour attack caused serious damage to more than one region of the capital, he said. The explosions illuminated the night sky and echoed in front of the city while the air strike crying. The blue lights of the emergency vehicles reflected high -rise buildings and blocked the streets of debris. “It was a hard, sleepless night,” Zelenskyy said.
Russia is accelerating its long -range attacks on Ukraine cities. Shortly before a week, Russia launched the largest air strike in the war. This strategy coincided with a harmonious Russian effort to break the parts of the 1000 -kilometer façade line, where Ukrainian troops were under serious pressure.
The country’s Air Force said that Russia started 550 drones and missiles in Ukraine during the night. The majority were shahed drones, but Russia launched 11 missiles in the attack.
23 -year -old Kyiv wedding photographer Alya Shahlai said that his house was destroyed in the attack.
“We were all in the shelter because it was very high, staying at home would be suicide.” He said. “We landed 10 minutes ago and then had a high explosion, and the lights went out in the shelter, people panicked.”
Authorities, five ambulances were damaged while responding to calls and emergency services removed more than 300 tons of rubble.
Trump, Zelenskyy speaks
In his call for Friday, Zelenskyy said that he congratulated Trump and the American people on the Day of Independence and thanked the US for his continuous support.
Zelenskyy discussed a possible future meeting between teams to explore ways to increase Ukraine’s protection against air strikes.
Authorized, defense industry capabilities and direct joint projects with the United States, especially in the drone technology in detail, he added. Zelenskyy also exchanged views on mutual supply, investment and diplomatic cooperation with international partners.
Peace efforts have been fruitless so far. Recently, direct peace negotiations have led to irregular changes of the bodies of prisoners, wounded troops and falling soldiers. No date was determined for more negotiation.
Ukrainian officials and the Russian Ministry of Defense said that another prisoner swap on Friday, but did not say how many soldiers were involved. Zelenskyy said that most Ukrainians have been in Russian captivity since 2022. Ukrainian soldiers were classified as “injured and serious patients”.
‘I was very disappointed’
A telephone conversation was held between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the same day.
When he was asked that he had made any progress during an agreement to end the war in Ukraine during his call with Putin, Trump said: “No, I have never made progress with him today.”
“I am very disappointed with my conversation with President Putin today because I do not think it is there. I do not think you want to stop (fight) and this is very bad.” He said.
According to Putin’s Foreign Advisor Yuri Ushakov, Russian leader Moscow’s goals in Ukraine will reach the targets of Ukraine and the conflict will try to remove the “root causes”.
“Russia will not withdraw from these goals, de said Ushakov said to journalists after the call.
The Russian Army exceeded the border on 24 February 2022 in an invasion, when Putin tried to justify Russian -speaking civilians in Eastern Ukraine and to prevent the country from participating in NATO.
Zelenskyy repeatedly called Russian disinformation efforts.
Continuous buzz of drones
While Russia increases air strikes, the Ukrainian response must be rapid. Russia launched 5,438 drones in Ukraine in June, according to official data collected by Associated Press.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that at the beginning of this week, Russia started more than 330 missiles, including about 80 ballistic missiles in Ukraine towns and cities that month.
During the night, while the EP journalists in Kiev tried to prevent the air strike of the Ukrainian forces, they heard the constant buzzing and explosions and the sound of the intense machine gun fire.
“Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote to the social media platform X in Kiev. “One of the worst so far.”
Ukrainian Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko “metro stations, basements, underground parking lots, families in the heart of our capital,” he said.
“What Kiev endured last night is nothing more than a deliberate terrorist act of terrorism,” he wrote.
Kyiv was the primary goal of the national attack throughout the country. According to Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least 14 people were taken to hospital.
Zelenskyy said the Kyiv attack “sarcastic.” In Moscow, the Ministry of Defense claimed that their forces targeted drones and other military equipment in Kiev.
