Meghan makes contact with estranged father in hospital

The Duchess of Sussex was eventually able to communicate with her estranged father, Thomas Markle, in hospital through a letter, her spokeswoman said.
The media personality’s correspondence was said to be “safe” in the hands of his father, who continues to have a reporter next to his bed who “broadcasts every interaction”, the spokesman said.
According to reports, Markle had her left leg amputated and told the Mail on Sunday that she did not want to die far from her daughter and wanted to meet Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet and her husband, the Duke of Sussex.
Last Friday, a spokesman for the duchess said she had “reached out” to her father, from whom she has been estranged since her wedding in 2018, when she was caught staging paparazzi photos ahead of the big day.
However, The Mail on Sunday reported that Markle was “confused” by the suggestion and said she had not received any messages despite not changing her phone number.
The spokesperson provided an update and it appears the communication took place via a letter: “Given that a Daily Mail reporter remained at her father’s side throughout, publishing every interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been extremely difficult for the duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past few days.
“With the support of reliable and trustworthy contacts, his correspondence is now safely in his hands.”
