VW to roll out self-driving electric minibus in Oslo

11 December 2025 02:05 | News

German manufacturer Volkswagen has signed an agreement to launch its driverless minibus in Norway.

VW subsidiary Moia said on Wednesday that a partnership agreement had been reached with Oslo transport operator Ruter and Scandinavian operator Holo.

VW will provide electric ID.Buzz vehicles and booking software, including an app, from early 2026.

Oslo is the third city in Europe, after Hamburg and Berlin, where Moia has launched the autonomous ID.Buzz AD.

Los Angeles in the United States is expected to follow next year, where Moia will collaborate with ride-hailing service Uber.

So far, vehicles still drive with a mandatory safety driver behind the wheel who can intervene if necessary.

According to previous statements, VW aims to receive approval for driverless operation across Europe and the USA by the end of 2026.

From now on, the safety driver will no longer be needed.

Test drives with prototypes have been ongoing since 2021.
