Indian Women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana has been in the news lately for her personal life rather than the match. Days after speculations about her wedding due to her broken relationship with ex-fiancé Palash Muccal, their wedding has finally been called off. Having put an end to the problems in his private life and cleared the air about his wedding, the star player has now moved on to the next page in his life by being appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian T20I team, which will play against Sri Lanka in the series starting on December 21.
This is India’s first such tournament since the November 2 Women’s World Cup final. Ahead of her match, Mandhana shared her love for the game in an interview with television anchor Mandira Bedi, along with India captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
“I don’t think there is anything in life that I love more than cricket. And yes, the biggest motivation is when you put on the jersey, it has India written on it. So I always tell everyone, when you put on the jersey, put all your problems aside and just be on the field, because you have a responsibility and you are one of two billion people representing your country. So just the thought of that is enough for you to have a sharp focus and do what you want to do.”
When asked about the discontent within the team, he replied: “First of all, I don’t see it as a problem because everyone wants to win the match for their country and everyone has their own opinion on how to win the match for the country.”
“But really, if we don’t have those discussions, we can’t win on the field. Because if we don’t have those types of discussions where we disagree on something, it means we’re not passionate enough to win the game for the team. So we definitely have those types of discussions.”
Smriti Mandhana’s wedding
After her wedding was called off, Mandhana removed the evil eye emoji from her Instagram bio. Smriti Mandhana was in a relationship with Mumbai-based music composer and film director Palash Muchhal. The couple had been in the public eye for a while and the wedding, which was postponed to November 23, was postponed after Smriti’s father suffered a heart attack.
