Kilmar Ábrego García ordered released from ICE custody in fight over Trump immigration | Kilmar Ábrego García

A federal court in Maryland on Thursday ordered the release of Kilmar Ábrego García from ICE custody, and he will be advised of the conditions of his release in the separate criminal case in Tennessee.
The case of Ábrego, a Salvadoran citizen and construction worker in Maryland, has become a proxy for the partisan fight against Donald Trump’s sweeping immigration policy and mass deportation agenda.
Trump administration officials have waged a relentless public relations campaign against Ábrego, among other things, repeatedly referring to him as a member of the MS-13 gang, even though he has not been convicted of any crime. His lawyers condemned the accusations. Ábrego said he was beaten, deprived of sleep and subjected to psychological torture while imprisoned in El Salvador.
