On December 12, 2025, banks will remain open across India, except in Meghalaya, where a regional holiday is observed to mark the death anniversary of freedom fighter Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma.
On Friday, December 12, 2025, banks in India will operate as usual and offer various services to customers such as cash withdrawal, deposit, passbook updates and check collection. Both public and private sector banks will operate during normal working hours, allowing customers to complete their banking transactions without any disruption.
Regional Holiday of Meghalaya
The only exception to this nationwide program is the state of Meghalaya. On this day, banks in Meghalaya will remain closed due to regional holiday. This holiday celebrates the death anniversary of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma, a revered Garo tribe freedom fighter. The holiday, considered a significant event in the state, led to a complete halt of banking services in Meghalaya. As a result, customers in the state will not be able to benefit from in-branch services starting December 12.
However, customers in Meghalaya will still be able to carry out their financial transactions through digital platforms such as mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs, which will continue to operate.
Regular Banking Transactions in Other States
In all other states and union territories in India, banks will operate normally from December 12. Whether it is routine banking needs such as cash deposits and withdrawals, or more specialized services such as check cashing, customers in these regions will not have any problems accessing services. Employees in these banks will work a regular day and ensure that the banking process continues without any disruption.
Upcoming Public Holidays in December 2025
While December 12 is a normal banking day in most parts of India, there will be several public holidays during this month that may affect banking operations:

- 19 December (Friday): Public holiday in Goa on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day.
- December 20 (Saturday) – December 22 (Monday): Sikkim celebrates a series of holidays for the Losoong/Namsung festival; This means banks will remain closed for three consecutive days.
- December 24 (Wednesday): Banks will be closed in Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya on Christmas Eve.
- December 25 (Thursday): A nationwide public holiday in India due to Christmas, when banks are closed.
- December 26 (Friday): Banks will remain closed in Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya due to Christmas celebrations. Since the holiday includes the weekend, these states will experience a four-day shutdown.

- December 31 (Wednesday): Banks will remain closed in Mizoram and Manipur for New Year’s Eve and the Imoinu Iratpa festival.

Digital Banking Continues Operation
Despite regional holidays imposed in some states, digital banking services will continue unaffected. Mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs will be fully operational, allowing customers to complete their financial transactions without going to a physical branch. This ensures that customers can carry out basic banking tasks even if banks are closed in certain areas.
