DoorDash driver allegedly pepper sprays delivery order in Indiana

The shocking moment a DoorDash delivery driver may have pepper-sprayed a customer’s order during a delivery in Evansville, Indiana, was captured on viral footage, according to local authorities and the company.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning and appeared to be a random attack that reportedly caused excruciating pain to a couple.
Doorbell camera footage shows a purple-haired woman dropping off an Arby’s order, seemingly taking photos, then surreptitiously spraying the bag with an irritant before returning the spray to her jacket pocket and leaving.
Local officials told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the incident.

“The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where a food delivery driver allegedly sprayed an irritant onto a customer’s order before leaving the residence,” Sheriff Noah Robinson said. he said.
“In the early morning hours of December 7, deputies responded to a local home after residents became ill shortly after eating delivered food. Individuals reported experiencing a burning sensation in their stomach, throat, mouth, and nose, and later discovered video footage showing the delivery driver spraying a substance onto the food bag before driving off.”

Resident Mark Cardin told local media WFIE He said he and his wife didn’t realize the food had been tampered with until they started eating.
“I noticed my wife started eating and started choking and gasping for air,” Cardin said. “After eating a few bites of his food, he vomited.”
“I looked in the bag and saw that it had some kind of spray or something like that. The bag had been tampered with. So I lifted up my doorbell camera and saw that the woman who had dropped off the groceries had actually tampered with it on purpose for some reason.”

In several posts on Facebook, Cardin claimed that he did not know the driver, that the attack was random, and that he had already blocked him on the DoorDash app after the delivery.
He described the incident to WFIE as horrific and noted that they may have unknowingly swallowed something much more dangerous.
“This is terrible,” Cardin said. “We’re assuming it was pepper spray, it probably is, but now, in this day and age, it could be anything. It could be rat poison, it could be fentanyl. So my wife could be dead.”

Carbin told WFIE that DoorDash has since refunded his order.
DoorDash told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that they had laid off the employee.
“We have zero tolerance for this type of egregious behavior.” a Door Panel the spokesman said. “The Dasher in question has been permanently removed from the platform and our team remains available to assist law enforcement in any investigation.”

The identity of the delivery driver has not been confirmed and no arrests have been made, authorities said.
The Sheriff’s Office also said it is coordinating with DoorDash as the investigation progresses.
