Amy Schumer announces divorce from husband Chris Fischer after 7 years

Amy Schumer and her husband have decided to go their separate ways.

The “Kinda Pregnant” star, 44, shared in an Instagram post on Friday, December 12, that she and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, have decided to separate after seven years of marriage.

“Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time,” she wrote in her caption.

After adding a few more “blah blah blah[s]Schumer explained that their decision to part ways as a couple “wasn’t because I lost some weight and thought I could bounce back.” [a] “basket” or because her husband “is an award-winning chef with a fiery Janlmes beard who can pull off some hot tails.”

He said the separation was “Amicable, with love and respect” and ended his caption by saying, “Family forever.”

Earlier this month, Schumer hinted that there were some problems in her marriage in another post on Instagram.

In the caption of a since-deleted video of her son taking a “bedroom tour” of their home, she wrote in part: “Whatever happens to me and Chris, it has nothing to do with weight loss or autism…we’ll make it through – he’s the best.”

In October, Schumer stunned fans by sharing a photo of herself showing off her weight loss in a black dress and heels. In the comments, many famous faces praised the actress for her progress, including Isla Fisher, who wrote, “Those legs ❤️❤️❤️.”

She went on to show off her toned body in an Instagram Story, posting a mirror selfie with the caption: “No filters, no fillers, no clean mirrors.”

Schumer and Fischer were first romantically linked in late 2017, and just days after making their relationship Instagram official, the couple announced they were getting married on the social media platform in February 2018.

Later that year, they announced they were pregnant with their first child and later welcomed their son, Gene, in May 2019.

In March 2019, Schumer shared in her Netflix special “Amy Schumer: Growing” that Fischer had been diagnosed with autism, saying that “there were some signs early on” and that “anything that made it clear that she was on the spectrum were reasons why I was madly in love with her.”

“It really gave us a lot of helpful tools,” she said of her diagnosis on the April 2022 episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “I think it’s good for people to check it out and get tested so you don’t spend your whole life feeling like you’re bad or wrong… my favorite people are on that spectrum.”

During the pandemic, the duo also starred alongside each other on the Food Network show “Amy Schumer Learns to Cook,” where Fischer taught Schumer some of her skills. They also appeared together in the HBO Max docuseries “Expecting Amy,” which highlighted Schumer’s struggle to get pregnant for the second time.

Schumer has been open about her fertility struggles, sharing in 2020 that she and Fischer tried in vitro fertilization. When she appeared on Chelsea Handler’s podcast in March 2022, she said the in vitro fertilization journey led them to a normal embryo, adding, “We tried it and it didn’t work… and I don’t have a uterus anymore.”

“So we’re just going to have one kid and we’re enjoying our little family and I’m just focusing on that,” she said. “I’m excited, but I’m sad. And it’s not really a sympathetic thing because it’s like there’s already one, damn it, shut up. But you know, it’s a real struggle that people go through.”
