Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Senate bid was met with some concern by anonymous House Democrats, Axios reported Friday.
“He can win the primary, but he can’t win the general in Texas,” one veteran said. House Democrat told Axios.
Crockett announced his Senate candidacy last week with a campaign video that called out President Donald Trump’s attacks on the progressive senator.
“This is worrying [swing] “I think it was a bad decision,” another House Democrat told the outlet.

Crockett responded in a statement to Axios: “It’s hard to get a clear picture of who Texans are from the smog of Washington.
“My message reaches people who are often overlooked by the political class. I’m not running a campaign focused on insider politics. … I’m focused on reaching all 30 million Texans and earning their trust.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to Crockett’s office for comment.
On the Republican side of the Texas Senate race are incumbent Republican Sen. John Cornyn and his primary GOP rivals, state Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt.

Another House Democrat told Axios there are concerns about his ability to win.
“There’s a lot of concern that he won’t win. It seems like a good target, especially with Paxton there,” the Democratic House member said. “I hope Texas chooses someone who can accommodate us.”
But Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., a fellow progressive in the House, told Axios Crockett is a capable reporter.

“I believe he can win,” said Rep. Al Green, D-Texas.
“Crockett is an extremely talented reporter and has engaged millions of Americans across the country,” Balint said.
Crockett insisted he didn’t need to win over Trump supporters for the Texas Senate seat.

“Yeah, I don’t know that we’re going to necessarily convert all of Trump’s supporters. That’s not our goal,” Crockett said.
The progressive lawmaker said he doesn’t need to reach out to Trump supporters as well and hopes to reach people who have been historically disconnected.
