According to multiple reports, Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Sunday’s loss against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mahomes’ knee buckled as he scrambled and was hit by Chargers defensive end Da’Shawn Hand. He was helped off the field and limped to the locker room. The MRI reportedly confirmed the extent of the damage.

The point guard wrote a message to the fans after hearing the news about his injury.
“I don’t know why this is the case,” Mahomes wrote to X. “And it hurts not to lie. But all we can do now is trust God and attack over and over again every day. Thank you Chiefs Kingdom for always supporting me and to everyone who has reached out and sent me prayers. I will come back stronger than ever.”
Chiefs coach Andy Reid offered a pessimistic view of Mahomes when he spoke to reporters after the loss.

“…didn’t look good,” Reid said when asked if he knew if Mahomes’ injury was serious. “I mean, you saw it. We’ll see where it goes.”
The Chargers’ loss also meant the Chiefs would not qualify for the postseason. Kansas City has made it to the AFC Championship every season since 2018. They have made it to the Super Bowl in each of the last three seasons and won two championships during that span.
Mahomes will finish the season with 3,398 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.
