Day One Early Learning Centre in Morayfield fined after 3yo climbed fence to escape twice in one day
Judge Julian Noud said the center was aware of the risks posed by the fence but chose to manage those risks through increased supervision, which ultimately failed.
Busy Bees childcare center in Coorparoo was ordered to pay a similar fine to the state’s regulator in late October after staff lost a five-year-old child for up to 20 minutes in 2023.
The center was not aware that the child was missing until his mother came to pick him up.
They later learned that the boy had exited through the fire escape door after crossing two streets near the Coorparoo Square shopping center before being found on Old Cleveland Road.
It wasn’t the first time he tried to escape.
It was decided that the center would pay $12,500 to the ministry.
The Early Childhood Regulatory Authority, which oversees care services, said it would continue to work with the sector to ensure providers understood their critical responsibility to supervise children and keep them safe.
