Man’s heartwarming note about neighbour’s cat is making people’s day

Living under one can seem like a nightmare when they constantly stomp their feet, play loud music, or make excessive noise during daily activities. While it can be difficult to stay quiet, prolonged discomfort can push you to the breaking point and force you into a conversation in the hope that it will cut through the noise a bit.

But when a new resident moved in upstairs, one gentleman felt compelled to write his neighbor a note — though it’s probably not what you’d expect.

He posted a photo of the handwritten message on Reddit’s ‘Apartment Life’ forum, and it was sure to please the recipient.

He wrote: “Dear [redacted] in 201. I need to tell you about your cat. He runs around a lot. I can hear the pitter patter of their feet on my ceiling.

“It’s so sweet and it gives me so much joy when I hear it. Tell them to keep it up.” [Redacted] Downstairs neighbor.”

“I have a new neighbor upstairs who has a very energetic cat,” she later explained, explaining why she chose to send this charming note that likely brought great happiness.

In the comments section, one person noted that they loved the “vibrating faucets of the cat on the ceiling.”

“I didn’t realize the ceiling noise was missing in my life until now,” said another. A pet-lover friend explained: “I had three Irish step dancing dogs (or dogs who thought they could Riverdance) living on top of me for a year. I mean. Noisy. They chased each other back and forth at all hours of the day. But I never fussed about it. I got so used to it that I actually managed to tone it down and it was like ambient noise to me.”

Another resident commented: “Our apartments aren’t very close together, so I rarely hear people living. The cat that lives above me meows constantly when she’s hungry (which she always is, apparently) and she really sounds like a woman screaming for help.”

They continued: “We recently took a camera to the porch and I found out that a child lives in the same apartment?! I haven’t seen or heard of them even once.”

One contributor noted that no “noise would be relaxing for them” when they were “lying in bed,” but people clearly differ in what they find soothing.

One resident expressed his fondness for the “zoomi” sound, explaining: “I would hear my neighbors’ cats zooming and it was so cute. You could only hear it when the apartment was completely quiet, but it was literally neighbor noise at its best.”

One cat fan added: “My 15lb tuxedo cat is running up and down the hall after he finishes pooping, I don’t know why. If I got this note from my neighbor I would think it was cute and appreciate the lighthearted humor!”
